2012 Nomination Information

 

The YWCA Women of Distinction Awards recognize women who inspire us and who are the trail blazers in our homes, businesses, schools and communities. In so doing, we remember the tenacious and courageous visionaries of the past, celebrate the women who are changing the way we live today, and nurture and inspire the young women who will shape our tomorrow.

Categories

In 2012, we invite you to nominate a Woman of Distinction from Southern Saskatchewan for significant contribution or outstanding achievement in the following categories:

 

 

The Arts

The recipient of The Jacqui Shumiatcher Arts Award has achieved excellence in, or made significant contributions to, the performance, development, preservation or patronage of, the visual, literary, performing, or creative arts. She may express herself artistically, encourage others to find their own creative expression, and/or promote the value of the arts as integral to the life of the community.

 

Community Leadership and Enhancement

This recipient is an outstanding volunteer who mentors and inspires others through involvement in philanthropic or voluntary community programs or organizations. She has shown her dedication by creating, participating in or adapting programs to meet community needs and is recognized as a source of strength and heart in her community.

 

Cultural Heritage

This recipient is a woman who is making significant contributions to the preservation, awareness, research and development of the cultural heritage of a community or other group. She is committed to ensuring that the culture inherited from past generations is maintained in the present and bestowed for the benefit of future generations.

 

Contribution to a Rural Community

This recipient is a woman living and working in southern Saskatchewan who makes significant contributions for the betterment of rural life. She has shown her dedication by creating solutions, participating in enriching lives or adapting programs to meet community needs.

 

Education and Mentorship

This recipient is a mentor and/or educator in many avenues of life and inspires a passion for life-long learning in those around her through the education system, employee training and development, community education or alternative programs. She may be developing innovative programs to meet the special needs of learners, and/or building a strong rapport with students, parents, colleagues, and the community at large to foster learning in a broader sense.

 

Entrepreneurship and Innovation

This recipient has a solid vision of the future, and possesses creativity and ingenuity that separates her from her peers. She has taken an innovative approach to solving a problem, filling a need or breaking into a new market. She has made sacrifices or risked a great deal to successfully manage, launch or revive a business, product or service.

 

Leadership and Management

This recipient is acknowledged in her field for her professional leadership, and the contributions she makes in her area of expertise provide significant and lasting benefit to her community. She is committed to excellence, creates and inspires a positive work environment, and influences and motivates positive change in her profession, trade or workplace.

 

Lifetime Achievement

Over the course of her lifetime, this recipient has made a significant and lasting impact in one or more of the above categories. She has dedicated her life to being a leader and role model, and her influence has made an enduring and profound difference in her community and in the lives of those around her.

 

Circle of Friends

These recipients are a formal or informal group or organization of two or more women whose collaboration has resulted in outstanding achievements and/or valuable contributions to the advancement and/or well-being of their community or communities. Collectively, they have a shared vision and have worked together to make their dreams a reality.

 

Wellness, Recreation & Healthy Living

This recipient enriches her community by fostering better living standards, providing leadership in physical or mental health services, fitness, sports or recreation. She promotes healthier lifestyles through participation and/or leadership in fitness, well-being, sports, recreation, active hobbies or healthy living.

 

Science, Technology & Environment

This recipient has achieved excellence and made significant contributions to a science related field, including pure and applied sciences, social sciences, engineering and life sciences, medicine, technology, agriculture or the environment. She is dedicated to the advancement of technological, scientific or industrial discovery through either research or application, or to the preservation or improvement of the environment.

 

Young Woman of Promise

This recipient is an exceptional young woman who is 19 and under, who has demonstrated scholastic achievement, outstanding leadership in her school, community and/or workplace and has inspired her peers to follow her example. She has shown maturity, perseverance, innovation and compassion. She has already made her mark and will continue to inspire us for years to come.
