Darla's Biography

Darla, a.k.a. Badriyah, has a dancing spirit. Her introduction into belly dancing began in 1995, which has now grown into a significant part of her life. Darla continues on her quest to learn more, and become a more refined and creative dancer. A desire to learn more has led her to study from many stars of Middle Eastern dance such as Delilah, Suzanna Del Vecchio, Sahra, Suzy, Aziza, Carolena Nericcio, Mesmera and many more. In 2002, Darla ventured into teaching an introductory belly dance class at the YWCA.

Since that time she has shared her knowledge, humor and passion with an ever-growing student base and class offerings. Her primary focus of teaching is to create joy, learn correct technique, and foster respect for this dance art form. Darla is an accredited bellydance instructor with the Regina Association of Middle Eastern Dance. In 2002, Badriyah received her first hand introduction to American Tribal Style Belly Dance with Anne Lehmar, formally of Fat Chance Belly Dance. With a burning desire to create a unique prairie based tribe she pulled together the most capable and inspired dancers in 2005 to what is now Exalta Tribal Connections.

Darla is much devoted to her students, forever encouraging them to learn and grow. She herself enjoys dabbling in new dance genres such as Hip-Hop and Bhangra. Darla works as a clinical mental health social worker, and nurtures a family.

Visit Darla’s website at www.earthmovesbellydance.ca for updates on classes and useful articles on bellydance.

RELEASING STRESS, CREATING ENERGY

3 Mondays – April 7, 14, 21

7:00 – 8:30 pm

Cost: $45.00 for all three sessions

Location: YWCA 1940 McIntyre St .

To register, phone: 525-2141

In this 3-session workshop, you will learn about the relationship between stress, our bodies, breath and energy and have the opportunity to experience a variety of effective ways to release built-up stress and tension and increase the flow of energy in our bodies.

The primary stress-release and energy-creation tools will be deep breathing and movement – all gentle, simple, and easy to integrate into daily life. When we consciously move and breathe more deeply, we:

•  feel more alive and have more energy for living

•  reduce fatigue and relieve pain, tension, anxiety, and depression

•  become more able to live in the present moment

Please bring water to stay hydrated, and wear loose, comfortable clothing that is appropriate for lying on mats and moving around the room.

Biography

After attending my first Nia class, I knew that Nia was a lifestyle practice and movement form that I wanted to explore & share with others - the magical mix of Eastern & Western movements & the focus on moving in your own skin with JOY. . . I have spontaneously danced my way through life, and engaged in mindfulness practices that ground and center me. I facilitate classes in a playful way, while honouring each individual and creating space for growing awareness and self-expression.

BODY ROLLING

Instructor - Sherry Trentini

Body Rolling

Body Rolling is a small ball therapy that can help you to create space in your body by releasing and lengthening your muscles and connective tissue. Body Rolling was created to help people free themselves of physical restrictions and experience optimal living. Using a selection of balls, Body Rolling can prevent and heal injuries by: elongating muscles, freeing muscles from each other and from bone, awakening muscle memory, stimulating and improving bone quality. A perfect compliment to any other physical activity but also great for those less active.

Chest & Shoulder Opening with Body Rolling

In this session we will use a gentle and effective technique of using a ball

supported by the wall to massage our spine and create space in our chest

and shoulders.

Abdominal Release & Hip Opener

The intention of this class is to create space in the abdominal area and hips,

allowing us to open up and elongate our torsos. By lessening the tension in

the abdomials, we will effectively assist in releasing the lower back and free

restrictions in the pelvic area.

Releasing the Hamstrings with Body Rolling

This session will utilize the ball in a supported seated position to release

and elongate the hamstrings. We will actively roll on the ball in a myofascial

style to lift the gluteus muscles and open up the sciatic area.

Foot Fitness

The objectives of this seminar will include reducing foot pain, stimulating

poor circulation, managing plantar fascitis and improving the overall well

being of our feet. The session will lead you through an enjoyable and

therapeutic foot care routine that you can incorporate into your own home

practice with the help of the miraculous little Foot Wakers.

All equipment for the sessions is supplied & class size is limited.

Childbirth Education HypnoBirthing ®

Classes will be running at the YWCA

For more information or to register

Call Marie 761-2252
www.birthbliss.ca

HypnoBirthing ® is a safe and amazing effective way to have a relaxing and calm natural childbirth.

By using relaxation, visualizations and special breathing techniques, you will be able to enter a state of self-hypnosis. While in this state, you will birth your baby in a more comfortable manner: alert, relaxed, free from harmful drugs. In fact, many women experience little or no discomfort during their labour.

HypnoBirthing® will help you to trust in your body, your baby and the remarkable process of birth. It combines the best of natural childbirth education with hypnosis. It teaches that by replacing fear and tension with deep relaxation, you do not have to experience acute pain during birth - the natural process of birth works perfectly when you are sufficiently relaxed.

It sounds incredible but it’s true… read some of the birth stories at www.hypnobirthing.com to see for yourself.

I am a certified practitioner in HypnoBirthing® (the Mongan method) and was trained in Minneapolis in April by the founder. I am the only practitioner in Sask.

HypnoBirthing® is taught in a series of 5 classes lasting about 2 1/2 hours each. The total programme cost is $300 including an accompanying book and relaxation cds. This may sound like a lot but think about how much time, money and energy you put into preparing a physical space for your baby (crib, car seat, sling, stroller). Isn't you and your baby's birth experience worth just as much or more?
