The YWCA Women’s
residence, Kikinaw, has 50 single rooms and one room
with 3 beds. There are communal bathrooms on each floor
and communal kitchens on two of the floors. Each room
has a small fridge, a sink, storage space and a bed
with bedding.
We offer a safe, affordable home for singe women. Many
of the women who live here were homeless before they
came to the YWCA and many have mental health and addiction
issues. In addition to that, we provide support with
daily life skills particularly regarding problem solving
and conflict resolution. Our resident staff offers support
counselling and referrals to the appropriate agency
which helps women create a more stable environment for
herself.
Within the residence, we have specific programs for
women. An example is a program for women who have been
released from a Federal Correctional Faciltiy and are
on parole. In addition to support and assistance with
life skills, we offer a program which is designed for
women who have committed a crime and/or have substance
abuse issues and want to make changes in their lives.
The 20 week program, Women’s Relapse Prevention
and Maintenance Program is offered on an ongoing basis.
