YWCA Women of Distinction Awards recognize women who inspire
us and who are the trail blazers
in our homes, businesses, schools and communities. In so doing,
we remember the tenacious and courageous
visionaries of the past, celebrate the
women who are changing the way we live today ,
and nurture and inspire the young women who will shape
our tomorrow .

In 2008, we invite
you to nominate a Woman of Distinction from Southern
Saskatchewan for significant contribution or outstanding achievement
in the
following categories:
The Arts:
The Jacqui Shumiatcher Arts Award
The Jacqui Shumiatcher Arts Award recognizes the achievement
of excellence in, or significant contributions to, the performance,
development, preservation or patronage of the visual, literary,
performing, entertainment or creative arts
Community
Leadership & Enhancement
To recognize outstanding
leadership through inspiration and example to others through
involvement in social services, human rights, labour, women's
issues, action programs and/or service clubs. These achievers
have enhanced the quality of life in their community primarily
through volunteerism.
Contribution
to a Rural Community
To honour significant
contributions to the betterment of rural life by a woman living
and working in southern Saskatchewan.
Cultural
Heritage
To recognize significant
contributions to the preservation, awareness, research and/or
development of the cultural heritage of a community or other
group.
Education
To recognize valuable
contributions in any learning environment through teaching,
training specialized instruction, research, development or
administration.
Entrepreneurship
To recognize entrepreneurs
who have provided an example for others to follow, through
the creation and operation of a successful business that benefits
the community.
Leadership
& Management
To recognize leaders
who successfully inspire and motivate positive changes in
their profession, trade or workplace.
Lifetime
Achievement
To pay tribute to
a lifetime of achievement and accomplishments, and/or a long-time
dedication to improving the lives of others.
Science,
Technology & Environment
To recognize excellence
and significant contributions through either research or application
to any science, pure or applied, for technological advancement
in any field, or for contributions to the preservation or
improvement of the environment.
Teamwork
To recognize a formal
or informal group or team of two or more women whose collaboration
or work together has resulted in outstanding and valuable
contributions to the advancement and/or well-being of their
community or communities.
Wellness,
Recreation & Healthy Living
To recognize outstanding
accomplishments and achievements through participation and/or
leadership in fitness, well-being, sports, recreation, active
hobbies or healthy living. This may include those who volunteer
or are employed in caring for the physical, mental or spiritual
well-being of others.
Young Woman
of Distinction
To honour a young
woman, between the ages of 18 and 30, who has demonstrated
noteworthy ability in contributions to her school, community,
and/or workplace as a role model or outstanding achiever.
